#20190601 - BCA 1st year student a first graduate from Chennai

This student first came in contact with Aalayam when we provided her with school uniforms after the Chennai floods. She has now stepped into college, joined 1st year BCA. She lives with his mother, grandmother and a younger sister. Her father, who worked as a security person, died of kidney failure in 2016.

The student's mother works in a pharmaceuticals factory and earns Rs.6,000 per month. Her grandmother is a domestic help making about Rs. 2,000 per month and receives an old age pension of Rs.1,000 per month. The family makes about Rs.9,000 in all, of which their house rent and water expenses (Rs.5,800) takes a big share.

The college fee is Rs.36,000 per year, of which the student has paid Rs.18,000. Aalayam has approved an assistance of Rs. 18,000 towards the rest of the fees.
